Maire Fahey has clocked up 34 fabulous years in the wonderful world of women’s magazines, for the last 13 of which she was Editor of Prima magazine - the number one women’s monthly in the UK for many years. During this period she also launched, presented and ran the highly successful annual Prima High Street Fashion Awards.
Before editing Prima, Maire held senior positions across many of the UK’s favourite mass market weekly titles including Chat (sub-editor, writer, Features Editor, Deputy Editor) and Take a Break and TV Quick where she was Deputy Editor. Her first Editorship was at leading weekly best, which she edited for three happy years, before being headhunted to launch a new weekly magazine in Australia. There she recruited a team from scratch, developed the editorial concept and launched For Me magazine within a year. Other roles Maire has held are Editorial Director at Attic Futura (publisher of teen, young women’s and TV titles) and Consultant Editor at Woman’s Own.
Little known facts about Maire ...
If she looks familiar, it’s probably because she had a starring role as Eileen in the eponymous Dexy’s Midnight Runners video. Who could forget those dungarees? She’s also practically an Olympic sprinter in high heels. She once completed a 3 ½ minute dash in full evening wear from Hearst headquarters to legendary club The Shadow Lounge without so much as getting a single hair out of place. And that included a dash up a double flight of stairs and back down again in the Raymond Revuebar.
Come on Eileen!
